As you will see below, we have a variety of projects and are always looking for for people trying to live out their faith by serving others or for those who just want to lend a hand. Please contact Steve Blanchard  if you are interested in volunteering. 

Compassion Ministry

Our Ministry of Compassion is able to help those who need a hand up because of the dedicated volunteers. There are too many opportunities to mention on just one web page–but you can find more details here and also learn more about our services (food pantry, showers, fellowship,  lending library–and more!) on this page. We promise there is a volunteer position to suit your schedule and talents.

New to Compassion?

Join us monthly for First Tuesdays with Compassion! This volunteer interest meeting is the first Tuesday night of the month at 6:30pm! Sign up to save your spot! This time is also for those who cannot commit to a regular volunteer time but still want to help out in some way. You can come and help with projects that support our ongoing ministries.

  • Glen Lea Elementary School/Laburnum Elementary School (October – May)

    • Classroom Helpers

    • Readers

    • Test Assistants

    • Special Event Helpers

    • Lunchroom Monitor

    • Landscaping at both schools (as needed)

  • International Ministry: Help refugees obtain driver’s license with ReEstablish Richmond. Transportation to doctors appointments, meetings, etc.
  • Mobile Market: Sub Driver
  • Community Missions
    • help with Binjo 1st Saturday of the month, 2-3 p.m.
  • Clothes Closet:
    • Size, stock, and Straighten clothing and shoes
    • Clean LL-35 and LL-35A after each service day
    • Laundry Attendant sub
  • Resource Packer:
    • Make Toiletry Bags (as needed)
    • Make Snack Bags (as needed)
    • Make Q-Tip Packs (as needed)
    • Make Feminine Packs (as needed)
    • Deliver food boxes weekly (as needed)
  • CSO sub-driver (mobile homeless outreach)
  • Administration: Update resource guide
  • Caregiver Support Group: Facilitator
  • Donate items for our food pantry and/or Mobile market (donation list available on website and from Steve Blanchard)

Farm & Market

FBC is committed to loving our RVA neighbors by providing access to fresh locally grown foods. Volunteers assist the farmers at the Farms at Charlotte Acres by planting, harvesting, and providing maintenance. We then give away this produce, among other necessities, at our Mobile Market. Mission Projects To Go

One of the best ways to bond with family or friends is over a service project. Here’s a list of simple things you can do to help someone in your community–from a food drive, to prepping a meal to assembling care packages. Please contact Steve Blanchard to learn how you might be able to serve.

Food and Hospitality

Our Kitchen is always cooking up something tasty.  Don’t you want to be part of the action?  From Wednesday Night Dinner server, to helping during funerals and other events, there is an opportunity to serve (no pun intended). Ushers and Greeters

First Impression Team members are often the first interaction a guest has with the church when they arrive on the church campus. Consisting of greeters, ushers, online hosts and parking attendants, these volunteers ensure that a visit to First Baptist is memorable. Team members do this by removing all the impediments of a large urban campus and allowing worship, Bible study, and service opportunities to take center stage. While assisting guests and members in navigating our campus and connecting to activities may sound less significant, it is the critical work of bridging the gap between the feeling of a neglected outsider and an anticipated guest. Other Local Volunteer Opportunities

We assist in local schools, support local law enforcement, assist refugee and immigrant families when possible, and work in the community in a number of other ways. Global Volunteer Opportunities

At First Baptist we realize just how fortunate we are to be able to worship and thrive in a place with such wonderful opportunity. We also realize that there are many places in our country and around the world that are in need of a little short-term help to do the ministry that they do everyday.
