What is Advent? The word Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning coming or arrival. Advent is a season in the church calendar spanning the four Sundays before Christmas. We celebrate the coming of Jesus and the anticipation of his return.
Here’s a list of events still remaining this month:
Worship & Music
December 15 – Service of Remembrance | 7 p.m. | Chapel | This season can be difficult for many. Join us for a service to remember and honor those we love who have died.
December 17 – First Family Around the Fireplace | 6:15 p.m. | Flamming Hall | Everyone is invited for this relaxed time together around the fireplace in the fellowship hall. Enjoy fun skits about the Christmas story and a slice of birthday cake for Jesus.
December 18 – One Accord at Bruton Parish Church | 8 p.m. | Williamsburg, VA | Bruton Parish in Colonial Williamsburg hosts candlelight concerts throughout the season. Our vocal ensemble One Accord is honored to be the featured musical guests each year. Join us!
December 24 — Christmas Eve Service | 5 p.m. & 11 p.m. | Sanctuary | A family-friendly service is offered at 5 p.m. So everyone can be involved, there is no childcare offered. A candlelight service with communion is offered at 11 p.m. Invite a family member or friend. Everyone is welcome in celebrating the gift of Christ’s birth!
Family Friendly Events
November 30 – December 5 – Journey to Bethlehem | Anytime in the Monument Avenue Courtyard | This brief art walk through the Christmas story is appropriate for all ages, and especially designed for families with children.
December 28 – Combined Sunday School | 10 a.m. | Flamming Hall | Wrap up the calendar year with an intergenerational time for sippin’ beverages and singin’ Christmas carols.
