Black History Month: Slave Trail Walk
February 25 @ 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm
In his book, Richmond’s Unhealed History, Ben Campbell says, “The history of Richmond is the founding history of the nation. Here at the falls of the James [River], in a unique way, you can trace the seeds of the nation from its very beginning. Without moving from the spot, you can identify each layer of the nation’s physical, social, racial, class, and religious development. The original sins, the great ideals, the failures, and the achievements are here to be seen in a single classroom.”
During February, we give special attention to the contributions of African Americans on the fabric of our nation. As a church that dates its founding before the establishment of Richmond, it is an important spiritual practice to remember our role in the practice of slavery, the emancipation of enslaved people, and the overdue inclusion of people of all races in our church and city. You are invited to join us as we walk the Richmond Slave Trail together on Sunday, February 25, following the morning worship service.
