Most churches are trying to get people to heaven. We're trying to bring heaven to earth.

How do we do it?

We look around for anything that doesn’t look like Heaven, and then roll up our sleeves and get to work.

You can help!  Whether you live just down the street or halfway around the world.  Anyone can do this work and everyone is welcome.

Special Announcement

On Sunday, June 30, during the Sunday School hour, more than 100 people gathered in Flamming Hall to hear a report-out from the Transition Team and to provide their input on how God is moving our church forward. Charlotte Evans, co-chair of the Transition Team, kicked off the event with a prayer and an introduction of the Transition Team's mission. Then, Jon Buckbee gave a report about the results of the survey that the Transition Team administered to the church body in the winter of 2023-2024. The presentation was organized by the primary missions (e.g. Compassion, Worship, Community, etc.) of Richmond’s First Baptist Church. That presentation can be found HERE.

Following the presentation, a discussion was facilitated at each table by a member of the Transition Team, the church's staff or the congregation. Each table was asked to answer three questions: (1) What kind of church do you hear God telling us to be in the future? (2) What energizes you about what is happening at RFBC right now? (3) How will you commit to serve Christ through the mission of RFBC? Responses to those questions were captured by each facilitator and gathered for consolidation by the Transition Team. The energy in the room was palpable as each table energetically discussed the questions. The Transition Team and the church's staff were encouraged by the dialogue and engagement, and plans are underway to conduct another session in order to gather input from those who were not able to attend. Stay tuned for more information about when that session will take place. In the meantime, please be in prayer for this team, our staff, the deacons, and our entire church as we attempt to discern God's will for us.

Compassion Ministry

Our motto is, if you see something that doesn’t look like heaven, roll up your sleeves and do something about it.

The need for our Compassion Mission is increasing and could use your help!

Gathering Spaces Renovations

As you enter our building, you are greeted with a welcoming smile, however, our infrastructure isn’t quite as welcoming.

From the lighting to the finishes, it’s time for an upgrade.  If walls could talk, we’d want ours to say “hello neighbor, welcome to First Baptist.  Let’s sit down, get comfortable, and get to know each other.”
