Donations - Be Kind with In-Kind

A List of Non-Monetary Donations Needed/Accepted
By First Baptist Church Compassion Ministries

Food Donations
Most of the food we stock is brought by various individuals, classes, and small groups or is purchased at the Central Virginia Food Bank. However, we always accept donations of certain food items, especially those we are unable to purchase at the Food Bank. Please do not bring food items not listed below because we do not distribute those items. Please place all food donations in the green grocery carts located in the main hallway.

  • Peanut Butter
  • Canned Pork and Beans, Baked Beans
  • Canned Fruit
  • Canned Green Beans, corn, peas
  • Boxed Cereal, Oatmeal, Grits
  • Canned Pasta’s
  • Pasta
  • Spaghetti Sauce in cans
  • Saltine Crackers, Peanut Butter Crackers
  • Breakfast Bars
  • Pop Tarts
  • Spaghetti
  • Soups
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Canned Tuna
  • Vienna Sausages
  • Potted Meat
  • Any small pop top can items on this list

Toiletry Donations
We distribute a variety of toiletry items. Please be sure to note the various sizes of the items requested. Please place all toiletry donations in the grocery carts located in the main hallway.

  • Toothpaste (any size)
  • Toothbrushes (adult)
  • Spray Deodorant (any size)
  • Hand Lotion (trial size)
  • Razors (disposable)
  • Men’s Underwear (new, any size 30-44)
  • Women’s Underwear (new, sizes 5-10)
  • White Crew Socks
  • Washcloths
  • Shaving Cream (regular size)

Clothing Donations
The Clothes Closet, Sleeping Bag ministry and others distribute these much needed items. Please place all clothing, sheets, blankets, and sleeping bag donations in the large cloth bin located just as you get off the elevator on the lower level to your left. All other donations can be placed in the grocery carts in the main hall.

  • Clothing in good shape, especially menswear
  • Shoes, especially large sizes
  • Crew Socks, Belts
  • Rain Ponchos
  • Umbrellas, especially compact ones
  • Back Packs new and used
  • Sheets
  • Blankets
  • Sleeping Bags new and used
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Brown Grocery Bags with handles
  • Bibles in good shape

If you have questions about whether we accept particular donations, please call us at 358-5458, ext. 133 or 168. Also, please remember that when you donate any item, it is going to another human being, so please, do not donate items that may be better off discarded. Also, please do not donate items that are in need of major repair. Unfortunately, we are unable to pick up items from your home; therefore, if you need someone to pick up items, please call AMVets, Salvation Army, or Goodwill Industries.
